Shahil Rahman

Computer Science Student and AI Assisted Developer

Based in London, UK

Currently

President of the AI Builders Society at Greenwich.

Looking for

  • Companies and startups to sponsor society events.
  • A 2027 internship or placement year.

Skills

Tools

  • Claude CodeI build and ship real projects with it. Testing and questioning come first, and I don't trust what I haven't proven. Every architecture, security and correctness decision on my projects is mine.
  • GitHubWhere my work lives and gets shared, including halflife, my open‑source project.

Learning

Python, plus system design and design patterns, building toward 2027 internship assessments.

Client work

Scoping, pricing and presenting to stakeholders. Comes from doing real freelance work, not a course.

System Design Lab

Interactive worlds that show how real systems stay fast and stay up under load: caching, load balancing, rate limiting, reverse proxies, backpressure, retries and sharding. Each one opens on the problem, and flipping a switch shows exactly what the fix changes, and what it costs.

Built so a beginner can learn the concepts without reading any code. Every world has a plain-English panel that maps what's on screen to the real system underneath, with real numbers and places to go deeper. It loads nothing from third parties and has no analytics.

Five of the six worlds have a headless checker that replays every switch setting at speed and measures the crowd for overlaps, jams and jitter.

Volley

Live word clouds, polls and Q&A, built for the AI Builders Society's workshops. The audience joins by QR code from any phone, with no account and no name asked, and results build up on the projector. Answers are deleted a day after the session ends.

Phones never hold a live connection: they all read one shared answer cached for a second, so 200 phones reach the server eleven to fourteen times a second, inside the free plans. Every rule lives in the database. Setup is two commands written for an AI agent to run.

Load-tested with 200 simulated phones for ten minutes: 1,204 answers sent, 1,204 stored, none lost.

AI Builders Society site

The society's sign-up site, with a question bar that answers from the society's own copy and nothing else. The page and the model read the same file, so the bot can't claim anything the site doesn't say, and when the copy doesn't cover a question it says it doesn't know instead of guessing.

Common questions get fixed, approved answers with no model call. Rate limits key on a salted hash of the visitor, never the raw IP, and a hard daily cap keeps the running cost fixed. Each launch criterion in the spec names a check that can fail.

Unit tests, a browser test and an offline eval of how people phrase their questions run against the answers.

halflife

A spaced-repetition tracker where an AI agent is the examiner. It tests you closed-book against a bar written into each topic. Your own confidence never moves the schedule.

Pass and the next test moves further out. Fail twice and it stops testing and teaches instead. The scheduler is deterministic Python, the due list is derived rather than stored, and it's all plain text. No app, no database.

108-assertion end-to-end suite, run in CI on Linux, macOS and Windows.

A halflife session: the agent asks a closed-book question, marks the answer a pass, and runs grade.py, which moves the next test from three days out to ten.

Founder and President

AI Builders SocietyUniversity of Greenwich

I founded a student society for AI-assisted programming: build sessions, hackathons, show and tell and guest speakers. It grew from an idea to around twenty-five interested students before the first term began, and in October 2026 the Students' Union approved it as an official society. A hundred students have now signed up, and a treasurer and outreach leads run it with me. The society's site, with its AI question bar, is under Selected Work.

It exists for two groups: students not using these tools at all, and students using them with no strategy behind it. It's open to every course and needs no prior coding experience, because the people who most need to build their own tools are usually not on a computing degree.

How I revise

I'm aiming for a First, and to understand the material properly rather than pattern-match it the week before an exam. I revise with halflife, a spaced-repetition tool I built and now use on my own modules. Nothing counts as known until I've passed a closed-book test on it.
